About Us
The contents you'll find here have been created with one simple goal in mind: Lending a helping hand to anyone involved in digital photography. Hobbyists, professionals, people wondering how to go about hiring a wedding photographer, folks about to go on vacation and wondering how to make sure they come back with some great photos, people who want to print out a digital album to show the family. For anybody who wants to learn anything at all about digital photography, we hope to provide some insight.
In the past, photography has always been kind of a cumbersome hobby to have. Film gets expensive. When you're buying and developing dozens of rolls, it's easy to spend thousands of dollars a year without even noticing it. And you better hope you don't accidentally pop the camera open in a well lit room, unless you want to waste an entire roll.
With digital photography, taking and developing as many photographs as you could possibly want is absolutely free... Well, you might need to buy a couple more AA batteries now and then, but we're talking about a difference between three bucks for hundreds of pictures, and hundreds of dollars for the same number of pictures.
Many purists, including professional photographers, actually dislike the whole idea of digital photography, and we'll tell you why: Digital photography opens photography up to everyone. An eight year old kid can borrow mom's camera and take some great snapshots without having to mow any lawns to develop the film. A retired senior citizen can buy a cheap digital camera and develop a new hobby. When the field is open to everyone, it becomes a lot more competitive. People who may have been unable to maintain a photography hobby ten years ago because it was just too expensive to develop that film, well, today they can easily take as many photos as they want, and more than a few of these people are getting into the professional realm and competing directly with longtime professional shutterbugs. There's a reason Hollywood filmmakers hate Youtube, you know.
With digital photography, anyone who gets the bug can learn the basics of composition, lighting, exposure and so on, and become just as skilled as any professional photographer. Since you can take hundreds of shots on a single pair of batteries, there's plenty of room for trial and error as you experiment and figure out exactly how to take great pictures.
