5 Reasons Why the Cheapest Digital Cameras Aren't Always the Best

Everyone loves getting a good deal but buying the cheapest digital cameras you can find isn't always a good deal.  For durable goods like cameras or other electronic equipment there are many factors that go into deciding if the purchase is really a good deal. Price is only one of the factors that is considered by photography pros when deciding which camera to buy. Check out these five reasons why the cheapest digital cameras aren't always a great deal and then decide for yourself what the best camera deal is.

1. Different uses require different camera quality - Whether or not the cheapest digital cameras are a good deal depends quite a bit on what you're using the cameras for.  If you just want a simple digital camera with no bells and whistles that you can use to take snapshots of your friends and family then a cheap digital camera might be the best deal for you. But if you're going to use your digital camera to photograph products you want to sell online, or pursue a serious interest in photography, or create a portfolio of your work then buying one of the cheapest digital cameras you can find will end up hurting you down the line.

2. You get what you pay for - It' s a cliche for a reason. It's really true that when it comes to durable goods you do get what you pay for.  Buying a cheap digital camera now might give you the chance to start taking photos right away to see if you're really interested in photography or to photograph a particular event like a wedding or birthday but cheap digital cameras tend to break or wear out faster than more expensive, higher quality cameras.  If you're going to be putting the digital camera to serious use you are better off buying a more expensive, higher quality camera up front instead of wasting money on several cheap digital cameras.

3. Price is subjective-  Depending on where you buy the digital camera, or what kind of sale is going on at any given moment you might not be getting the cheapest digital cameras.  Prices of digital cameras can vary wildly based on many different factors including the location that the cameras are being sold from. Instead of hemming and hawing about price savvy photographers will do their homework, pick a high quality camera that suits their needs, and then consider the price of the camera.

4. You're not just paying for the camera- When you buy an expensive piece of equipment like a digital camera you're buying more than just the actual camera. You're also buying online tools that the company might offer to buyers, access to customer service support and other benefits.  Buying one of the cheapest digital cameras you can find that doesn't come with any extras or even with technical support or a warrantee might end up costing you more than you think in the long run.

5. When it comes to cameras the extra matter- If you're a serious photographer, or trying to become one, you will need cameras that offer special features that will allow you to learn more, take intricate or special photos, and give you a wider range of choices when it comes to photography style.  The cheapest digital cameras are not equipped to give you the kind of tools you need to learn and grow as a photographer.
