Cost Efficiency
How much does a roll of film cost these days? Furthermore, how much does it cost to develop a roll of film? A roll of film usually only holds twenty five frames, costs a few bucks to buy, and costs a few bucks more to develop. It depends on where you go, but you're looking at, at the very, very least, around ten dollars for every twenty five pictures. Some of us maybe take twenty five pictures a year, in which case, sure, go for a traditional camera. For the rest of us, you can fit hundreds of photos onto a single memory card, and you can keep using that same memory card for decades. With digital, all you've got to worry about is replacing the batteries or recharging the battery pack now and then. This saves the dedicated shutterbug hundreds of dollars a months. So, what's the best digital camera for you?

Convenience
Whenever we take a picture with a traditional camera, what's the next thing we do? We take five more pictures just in case the first one didn't come out okay. With digital, we can take a picture, and a split second later, look at the LCD screen and see exactly what the picture looks like. In the movie industry, when they shoot with film they make sure to do at least two extra takes "for security", even if the first take was perfect, because who knows? Maybe the film was over exposed, maybe the camera wiggled and ruined the shot, maybe it was out of focus, maybe, maybe, maybe. This means that they have to shoot everything at least three times, even if it's just a simple shot of somebody opening a door, just to make sure they have it, because they don't know for sure until the film is developed. And even if they shoot everything three times, every one of those takes might be unusable. With digital, the director shoots a take, looks at the footage, and if it's good, he says "Okay, next scene". With any digital camera, you have the same advantage. Look at the picture. Is it good? Cool. Next shot.

Ease of Use
If you want to operate a traditional camera that can do more than point and shoot, you need to have a kind of idiot savant intuition about how to zoom, how to focus, how to set the shutter speed, how to handle the film properly and on and on. With a digital camera, the simple button or touch screen based interface makes it easy for literally anyone to produce clear, quality images.

Some people don't like digital cameras for whatever reason. Maybe they're no good with computers? To each their own, but for the vast majority of today's hobbyists and professionals, digital is the medium of choice.
