How to Use Underwater Digital Cameras Effectively
Underwater digital cameras have revolutionized photography. Even a hobbyist on vacation can get amazing quality underwater photos with some of the underwater digital cameras available today. Taking great photographs underwater can be very tricky. The lighting, the landscape and other factors such as the movement of the undersea life can make it tricky to get beautiful underwater shots until you learn the tricks that experts that use to take gorgeous underwater photos. Here are some tips from the pros that anyone can use to take amazing underwater photos:
Get the right equipment - Do a little homework on underwater digital cameras before you buy one. Make sure that the housings of the underwater digital cameras that you are considering are pressure tested and able to be used at the depth you want to dive to. Many underwater cameras are not terribly expensive but it's still important to research the cameras available before you buy one.
Change your batteries before you dive - No one wants to miss a great underwater photo because of low batteries, and you won't be able to change the batteries on underwater digital cameras once you get into the water. Play it safe and put new batteries in before you dive. Also, turn off your camera power saver before you dive. It would be awful to lose a great shot because you were waiting for your camera to come out of power saver mode.
Set brightness to maximum - Shooting underwater is very different than shooting above water. Even the best underwater digital cameras will shoot pictures that look dark. Keep the camera settings on maximum brightness for all underwater pictures to make it less likely that the photos will turn out too dark.
Shoot at the highest possible resolution- No matter how good your underwater digital camera is you will need to shoot at the highest resolution you can in order to get a great underwater shot. You can always change the resolution in a photo editor later on but in order to make sure that the photo looks as good as possible in watery conditions always set the underwater camera to the highest possible resolution before you dive.
Forget about reds - Reds will never show up well in underwater photos because the blues in the water overpower the reds. In order to get vivid reds in underwater shots you will need to a photo editing program to clean up the photo. Even the best underwater digital photos won't be able to capture brilliant reds underwater so don't waste time trying to get the color perfect when you're taking the picture. Just shoot. Clean up the photo and enhance the reds with a photo editor later on.
Take a diving class - Lining up a photo and seeing great photo composition underwater is tough. Most photographers are completely out of their element under the water. Taking a diving course, or at least a diving lesson, will help you get your bearings underwater quickly and find the best perspectives for photos.
