Digital Wedding Photography: Enlisting Uncle Bernie
So you've found the man or woman of your dreams and you're ready to settle down into marital bliss, have a few kids, and live happily ever after... Not so fast. Before you ride off into the sunset, you're going to have to deal with the stress and hassle of organizing the wedding. Sorry to break the bad news, but somebody had to say it.

Who to Trust For Your special Day?
Wedding Photography:Luckily, hiring a wedding photographer isn't all that much of a headache. There are only a few things you need to look at: The photographer's previous work, the price they're charging, and what kind of options they offer in terms of printing the photos. It goes without saying that you want to hire the best photographer you can afford, of course, so remember to ask for a LOT of samples. Better yet, talk to any of your recently married friends and ask for recommendations. The photographer has the option of only showing you his best work, but an unsatisfied customer has no reason to sugarcoat it for you. You can have your photographer print you out some photos, or you can broaden your options by requesting a CD of the photos so you can get your favorite online printshop to do the job. Another possibility is to look for a recent graduate of one of the local photography schools.
Your other option, if you don't have too much cash to blow... do you have any friends or family members who are handy with a camera? They could probably cut you a deal and do the job for little more than the cost of their trip to the print shop. If you enlist a few of your loved ones to take pictures, you have an advantage in that they can work in shifts and take time to socialize, have some cake, and enjoy themselves alongside the other guests. Of course, when we say "handy with a camera", we mean "as handy with a camera as most professionals". Your nephew with the one megapixel cell phone camera and a bunch of myspace photos of his high school buddies might not be your best bet. We're talking more along the lines of your cousin who comes home with a book full of gorgeous photos every time he goes on vacation.
On the flipside, maybe YOU'RE that friend or family member who's handy with a camera, and your new sister in law is so happy with the wedding album, you've realized this is your true calling in life. In which case, you really couldn't have picked a better day and age to get started in professional photography.
Today, all you need to set up a small wedding photography business is a camera, a computer, and a few well placed personal ads... and, of course, a practical work ethic. You want to be able to provide your clients with exactly what they're after. If you don't have a digital camcorder or any editing software yet, now would be the time to invest, as most soon-to-be-newlyweds are looking for photos as well as a DVD these days.
Just be prepared to offer anything and everything you would want from a photographer at your own wedding. Be ready to provide framed photographs, elegantly designed photo albums, poster sized prints, DVDs, a CD with all the photos on it, etcetera etcetera. Now... don't go running off to the nearest computer store to get professional quality printing equipment. You can worry about that later. For now, just bookmark your favorite digital picture printing website. As you can see, there are many things to consider when it comes to wedding photography.
